WordPress / WooCommerce Web Developer


Contract: Permanent
Working Pattern: Full-time
Location: To be confirmed
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced WordPress / WooCommerce Web Developer to take ownership of the day-to-day development and maintenance of multiple trade and consumer-facing websites, as well as internal web-based business tools.

Working closely with senior web development and ERP specialists, you will be responsible for developing and enhancing e-commerce functionality, custom WordPress plugins, integrations and internal applications.

The role combines hands-on web development with systems integration, data management, analytics tracking and front-end optimisation. You will work across a range of projects, from major e-commerce enhancements through to smaller fixes and ongoing improvements.

Key Responsibilities WordPress & WooCommerce Development
  • Develop, maintain and enhance multiple WordPress and WooCommerce websites.
  • Build, maintain and improve custom WordPress plugins.
  • Develop bespoke WooCommerce functionality to support complex e-commerce requirements.
  • Implement trade and tiered pricing, customer groups and account-specific functionality.
  • Develop delivery date, courier and fulfilment logic.
  • Build and maintain subscription and recurring order functionality.
  • Develop bulk ordering, repeat ordering and reorder tools.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve website, plugin and theme-related issues.
Internal Web Applications & Business Tools
  • Develop internal web-based tools and applications for staff and operational teams.
  • Build user-friendly front-end interfaces for sales order entry and other business processes.
  • Develop tools that interact with ERP and wider business data.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver practical technical solutions.
Systems Integration & APIs
  • Build and maintain integrations between e-commerce platforms, ERP systems and other business applications.
  • Develop and maintain integrations using REST APIs and webhooks.
  • Work with integration platforms to connect websites with ERP, courier, marketing and other third-party systems.
  • Monitor integrations and troubleshoot data flow and connectivity issues.
  • Ensure integrations are reliable, secure and maintainable.
Analytics & Tracking
  • Take ownership of e-commerce tracking and data collection.
  • Maintain and improve GA4 e-commerce data layers and Google Tag Manager containers.
  • Ensure tracking is consistent across production and staging environments.
  • Test analytics and tracking functionality following releases and significant website changes.
  • Identify and resolve tracking issues where required.
Development & Release Management
  • Follow established development and release processes across all projects.
  • Use Git and appropriate version control practices.
  • Apply semantic versioning and maintain accurate changelogs.
  • Ensure changes are tested in staging environments before being deployed to production.
  • Maintain a structured approach to development, testing and deployment.
  • Treat both major developments and smaller fixes with the same focus on quality and reliability.
Database & Data Management
  • Write, maintain and optimise MySQL queries.
  • Work with product and e-commerce data for reporting, bulk updates, imports and feeds.
  • Develop efficient data processes to support website and business requirements.
  • Troubleshoot database and data-related issues.
  • Ensure data handling processes are reliable and appropriately optimised.
Testing & Quality Assurance
  • Test WordPress core, theme and plugin updates in staging environments.
  • Identify, investigate and resolve website issues.
  • Carry out regression testing following updates and significant changes.
  • Monitor website performance and proactively identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure solutions are robust, maintainable and fit for purpose.
Front-End Development & Performance
  • Maintain high standards of front-end development and user experience.
  • Ensure websites are responsive across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.
  • Improve page speed and Core Web Vitals.
  • Support web accessibility and usability requirements.
  • Develop landing pages and campaign-focused website content.
  • Implement on-page SEO improvements in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
Essential Skills & Experience

The successful candidate should have:

  • Strong commercial experience developing with WordPress and WooCommerce.
  • Experience developing and maintaining custom WordPress plugins.
  • Strong knowledge of PHP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Good understanding of WooCommerce architecture and customisation.
  • Experience working with MySQL and relational databases.
  • Experience developing REST API integrations and working with webhooks.
  • Experience integrating websites with ERP or other business systems.
  • Understanding of Git and structured software development practices.
  • Experience working with staging and production environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with GA4 and Google Tag Manager.
  • Understanding of website performance, Core Web Vitals and responsive design.
  • Good understanding of web accessibility and SEO principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing reliable, high-quality solutions.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience integrating WooCommerce with ERP systems.
  • Experience working with third-party integration platforms.
  • Experience with courier, fulfilment or logistics integrations.
  • Experience developing subscription and recurring order functionality.
  • Experience with trade or B2B e-commerce platforms.
  • Experience working with complex pricing structures and customer-specific catalogues.
  • Experience developing internal business applications.
  • Knowledge of e-commerce analytics and conversion tracking.
  • Experience working within a structured release and version-control environment.
