HGV Cover Driver
£16.00 per hour + enhanced trunking rate
£1,000 joining bonus
Dash Express - Hill Barton Depot, Exeter (EX5 1DR)
If you're an experienced HGV driver who enjoys variety, adapts easily, and takes pride in keeping an operation moving, this could be the role for you.
Dash Express is part of the Palletways network and a trusted logistics provider across the South West. We're looking for a dependable HGV Cover Driver to step in where needed - covering Class 1 and Class 2 work, collections and deliveries, and day or night trunking.
This is not a fixed-route driving job. It's a role for someone who's comfortable with change and happy being relied upon when flexibility matters.
What the role actually involves
As our HGV Cover Driver, you'll provide essential cover across the operation. Your work may include:
Driving Class 1 and Class 2 vehicles , depending on the route
Completing pallet collection and delivery routes , including multi drop work
Carrying out day and night trunking runs between depots
Completing daily vehicle checks and reporting any defects
Loading, securing and unloading palletised goods safely
Using a pallet truck where required
Scanning consignments using a handheld terminal (HHT)
Communicating clearly with the operations team about delays or issues
Keeping vehicles clean, fuelled, and ready for the next shift
Working within driver hours, WTD and tachograph regulations at all times
You'll be trusted to work independently, represent the business professionally, and step up wherever you're most needed.
What we're looking for
This role suits drivers who are confident, adaptable, and professional.
You'll need:
A valid Class 1 (C+E) licence
An up to date CPC
Experience with HGV collections, deliveries and/or pallet trunking
A solid understanding of driver hours and road safety
Good time keeping and reliability
Strong communication skills and a customer focused attitude
The flexibility to work variable shifts
All staff must be able to pass a basic DBS check .
Pay and benefits
£16.00 per hour
Enhanced rate when working trunking shifts
£1,000 joining bonus (£500 after 1 month, £500 after 3 months)
5.6 weeks' holiday , including bank holidays
_(increasing by 1 day per year, up to 5 years)_
