Ocean imports handler

We are looking for an experienced Ocean Freight Import professional to join our client.

You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of customers and coordinating their ocean import shipments from start to finish. This is a customer-facing role, so strong communication skills and a good understanding of the ocean freight import process are essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage ocean freight import shipments from start to finish.
• Coordinate shipments with customers, overseas agents, shipping lines, hauliers and internal teams.
• Provide a high level of customer service and keep customers updated throughout the shipment process.
• Manage your own portfolio of customers and ensure agreed KPIs and service levels are met.
• Handle import documentation and ensure shipments are processed correctly and efficiently.
• Work with internal teams to resolve any shipment or delivery issues.
• Build strong relationships with customers and overseas partners.
• Work with suppliers and support cost and margin management.
• Produce customer reports and provide updates on shipment performance.
• Keep up to date with changes and developments within the ocean freight market.
• Support the wider team and provide cover when required.

Experience needed:

• Previous experience within ocean freight imports.
• Good understanding of the end-to-end ocean import process.
• Experience working within a freight forwarding or logistics environment.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Good organisation and time management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities at the same time.
• Confident dealing with customers, suppliers and overseas agents.
• Commercial awareness and an understanding of costs and margins.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Ocean Freight Import professional who understands the full import process and is comfortable managing shipments and customer relationships independently.

You should be organised, commercially aware and confident communicating with customers and suppliers. Most importantly, you will have solid hands-on experience within ocean freight imports and be able to manage shipments through to final delivery.
