If so, you can do this by becoming a Non-Executive Director (NED) of the Security Industry Authority (SIA). The SIA plays an important role in contributing to public protection across the UK, by providing robust and effective regulation of certain private security activities, licensing more than 450,000 individuals and operating a voluntary approved Contractor Scheme for security businesses. Earlier this year, Parliament passed the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act which named the SIA as the independent regulator for Martyn's Law when this new duty comes into effect in 2027.

The SIA is a high-performing Non-Departmental Public Body which works closely with the Home Office under the Security Minister's portfolio. It has also established strong working relationships with the devolved governments in Northern Ireland and Scotland. The Board is committed to delivering on clear outcomes which support the government's priorities of keeping the UK safer from terrorism and to halving acts of violence against women and girls in the next decade.

This is an exciting time of change and increased public interest in the SIA as it prepares for the new responsibility of independent regulator for Martyn's Law, as well as further developing its approach to compliance and enforcement work, both in terms of legal non-compliance but also influencing changes and improvements to the supervision and quality of service provided by private security companies. By raising standards across the private security industry, of both individual licence holders, within security businesses and at venues and events once Martyn's Law goes live, the SIA will continue to play a crucial role in improving public safety.

We are recruiting a new SIA NED whose responsibilities will be to work with the Chair and other Authority Members in setting the strategic direction of the Authority, Chair and participate in Authority sub-Committees, oversee the work of the Chief Executive in managing the Authority and its delivery programme; and play a key role in representing the SIA in communications with key stakeholders.

We are looking for a candidate with a successful track record of achievement in a Board-level or equivalent experience; a thorough understanding of issues arising from delivering services and business improvements within a high profile and sensitive environment; and a good understanding of the wider issues relating to the regulation of the private security industry or a sector with similar characteristics to the private security industry. Specifically, the successful candidate will be able demonstrate evidence of Strategic knowledge and skills in data and digital transformation and IT.

This appointment will be for an initial period of three years.
