SEN Teaching Assistant - Secondary School
Location: Newham, East London
Position: SEN Teaching Assistant
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time, term-time
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Are you an experienced and passionate SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a new opportunity in a supportive secondary school?
We are currently working with a secondary school in Newham that is looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting students with additional needs and wants to make a real difference to their education and development.
The Role
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support to students with SEN
- Supporting students to access the curriculum and participate fully in lessons
- Working closely with teachers and the school's SEN team
- Supporting students with their social, emotional and academic development
- Helping students develop confidence, independence and positive learning behaviours
- Adapting support to meet individual students' needs
- Assisting with classroom activities and learning resources
- Maintaining positive relationships with students, staff and parents/carers
The Ideal Candidate
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN
- Experience working within a school or educational setting is desirable
- Patient, calm and empathetic approach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to build positive relationships with students
- Confident supporting students with a range of additional needs
- Resilient, proactive and able to work effectively as part of a team
- A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their potential
