Job Description: PSV Engineer


Job Title: PSV Engineer / Technician
Location: Hailsham
Hours: 40 hours per week
On-Call Requirement: One week on-call on a rotating basis


Job Purpose


The PSV Engineer is responsible for carrying out maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and servicing of Public Service Vehicles to ensure fleet safety, reliability, and compliance with all legal and company standards.


Key Responsibilities


Perform routine servicing, inspections, and preventative maintenance on PSV vehicles.
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults.
Carry out MOT preparation and compliance inspections.
Respond to vehicle breakdowns and emergency repair requirements.
Complete maintenance documentation accurately and on time.
Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with DVSA requirements and company procedures.
Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
Use diagnostic equipment and workshop tools effectively.
Report vehicle defects and recommend corrective actions.
Assist with fleet improvement initiatives and reliability programmes.
Participate in a rotating on-call rota, providing out-of-hours breakdown and engineering support.


Essential Requirements


NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in Heavy Vehicle, PSV, or Automotive Engineering.
Experience working on PSV, HGV, coach, or commercial vehicles.
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good understanding of vehicle safety and compliance standards.
Full UK driving licence.


Desirable Requirements


PSV licence.
IRTEC accreditation.
Experience with modern diagnostic systems.
Knowledge of alternative fuel or electric bus technologies.


Working Conditions


40 hours per week.
Participation in a rotating on-call schedule (one week at a time).
Occasional overtime may be required to support operational needs.
PPE and relevant training provided.


Pay: From £46,800.00 per year
