Description:
Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in science and engineering on behalf of national security. The Radiation Protection (RP) Division supports critical Laboratory missions by ensuring safe work environments through the identification, evaluation, and control of radiological hazards. We are seeking a Senior Radiological Control Technician 3 (RCT 3) to join the Radiation Protection Programs Group (RP-PROG). This position provides advanced field support and leadership in implementing radiation protection programs across a wide range of facilities. This is an onsite role in Los Alamos, NM, with a salary range of $72,800 $115,400.
Provide direct field support for implementation of the Radiation Protection Program Perform radiological job coverage, workplace surveys, and documentation of radiological data Support moderate- to high-hazard radiological work activities across multiple facilities Respond to radiological events, including spills and personnel contamination incidents Assist in the development and execution of radiological work planning documents (e.g., RWPs, IWDs) Mentor and train junior Radiological Control Technicians in radiation monitoring and contamination control Support emergency response activities related to radiological hazards Ensure compliance with DOE radiation protection policies, procedures, and safety requirements Collaborate with multiple work groups while working independently on complex assignments
High school diploma and a minimum of 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation Experience supporting moderate- and high-hazard radiological work environments Experience responding to radiological incidents such as spills and contamination events Experience developing and implementing radiological work planning documents Knowledge of DOE radiation protection policies and procedures Demonstrated ability to mentor and train less experienced personnel Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection and anti-contamination clothing
Active DOE Q clearance Current DOE Core Certification Radiological Worker certification NRRPT (National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists) certification Familiarity with LANL policies, practices, and procedures Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe PDF software Associate degree in a technical field involving math and/or science Experience working in radiological environments or implementing radiological controls
