Position: Correctional Medicine Nurse Practitioner

Location: Maximum Security Male Correctional Facility, New York


Schedule: Monday Friday 7:00 AM 3:00 PM (8-hour shifts)


Coverage: Scheduled (No call) Overtime may be required


Security Note: No cell phones permitted on facility grounds


Clearance: Background check required



Position Overview:


We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide comprehensive primary care to adult male inmates in a maximum-security setting. The NP will serve as the primary care provider, managing both acute and chronic medical needs in collaboration with a licensed physician.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Conduct physical exams and health assessments for male patients aged 18 and older

  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic illnesses within scope of practice

  • Develop and implement patient care plans, in consultation with a supervising physician

  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to inform care decisions

  • Document clinical findings, diagnosis, treatment plans, and follow-up recommendations

  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive care

  • Prescribe medications and therapeutic treatments according to NY State regulations

  • Refer patients to specialists or external providers when necessary



Requirements:



  • Active New York State Nurse Practitioner license

  • Certification by the New York State Education Department in a Nurse Practitioner specialty

  • Minimum of 1 2 years of relevant clinical experience (preferably in corrections, primary care, or underserved populations)

  • Strong communication and clinical decision-making skills

  • Ability to work independently in a secure facility setting
