Description: About San Domenico

San Domenico School is a K-12 independent school located on a 515-acre campus in Marin County. The school is rooted in academic excellence and a strong commitment to community, service, and student development. San Domenico offers a comprehensive athletics program that emphasizes competitive integrity, sportsmanship, and balance between academics and athletics.

About the Role

The Tennis Coach at San Domenico School is responsible for fostering a positive, competitive, and inclusive environment for student-athletes. This role emphasizes the development of both strong technical tennis skills and personal character, ensuring that the tennis program reflects the school's core values of study, reflection, community, and service.

San Domenico fields a girls' interscholastic tennis team in the fall season and a boys' interscholastic tennis team in the spring season, with each season typically running 8-10 weeks, inclusive of practices and matches. The Tennis Coach leads and supervises all aspects of these interscholastic seasons.

Practices are held after school on weekdays, with matches also scheduled primarily after school, and occasional weekend commitments depending on league and postseason play. The Tennis Coach plans and runs daily practices, coaches all scheduled matches, and supports student-athletes in balancing athletic commitments with their academic responsibilities.

This position plays a vital role within the Athletics Department and reports to the Director of Athletics. The coach works closely with student-athletes, parents, and fellow coaching staff to support a strong team culture, clear communication, and a positive student experience within a school-based athletic program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead and organize daily practice sessions focused on skill development, conditioning, and match strategy for players of varying levels.
Coach and manage all scheduled matches, including home games on our campus courts and away games throughout the region.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes by following school protocols and maintaining a respectful team culture.
Communicate regularly with the Athletic Director regarding team progress, scheduling, and equipment needs.
Maintain and manage all team equipment and uniforms, ensuring the tennis facilities are used respectfully.
Foster strong relationships with parents through clear and timely communication regarding schedules, expectations, and student progress.
Coordinate transportation logistics for away matches by driving school vehicles to transport the team.
Promote a culture of "Panther Pride" by encouraging high standards of sportsmanship and academic balance for all players.
Attend required athletic department meetings, school open house events and professional development sessions.

Qualifications :

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements :

Bachelor's degree preferred.
3+ years of experience coaching tennis, ideally at the high school or collegiate level.
Deep knowledge of USTA rules and competitive match strategies.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate young athletes.
Ability to work flexible afternoon hours, including evenings for matches.
Valid California driver's license required (with a clean driving record).
Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before the season starts).

Desired Skills:

RSPA (formerly USPTA) or PTR certification is highly preferred.
Experience with UTR ranking system
Experience working in an independent school environment.
Strong organizational skills for managing rosters and match reporting.
A commitment to fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment for athletes of all backgrounds.

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $5,000-$6,000 per interscholastic season. San Domenico has separate interscholastic seasons for boys' and girls' tennis teams, with boys' tennis in the spring and girls' teams in the fall.

Placement within the salary range will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Candidates with fewer years of experience can expect placement toward the lower end of the range.

Additional opportunities may be available for the individual in this role, including teaching middle school students tennis as part of our physical education program. Candidates might also pursue separate, on-site instructional work with Mouratoglou Tennis Academy San Francisco , which operates programs on San Domenico's campus. Any such work would be independent of San Domenico employment and discussed separately.
