Position: LICENSED ATHLETIC TRAINER


Description: Job Summary


Performs a variety of basic nursing-related and medical office tasks of average difficulty.


Physical Requirements
  • The ability to perform the duties and responsibility of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations for disabilities.
  • The ability to consistently lift, push or pull loads of up to fifty (50) pounds. (Unless nursing 50)
  • Sufficient strength, mobility and stamina to make frequent location and position changes, assist with patient care, and perform other physical activities of average difficulty.

Resource Utilization: Consistently utilizes and maintains supplies and equipment to minimize lost charges and unnecessary equipment repair-replacement.


Confidentiality: Adheres to established policies on privacy and security requirements for compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), as applicable by Shannon Policy.

Performance: Position Specific Essential Functions


  • Greets patients in a professional, service-oriented manner, helps room patient by taking weight, vitals, temperature, respiration, blood pressure, and updating all relevant information into the patient's chart.

  • Administers immunizations, injections, and/or oral medications in accordance with provider instructions.

  • Completes laboratory and radiology requisitions, ensures accurate patient documentation, maintains logs and other documentation, cleans, sterilizes, and packages instruments.

  • Prepares rooms for examinations, ensures examination rooms are stocked with necessary supplies and equipment and cleans rooms as needed.

  • Answers phone calls from patients, providers, pharmacies, and others as needed, takes messages as appropriate.

  • Planning and implementing a comprehensive and cohesive injury and illness prevention program with a provider.

  • Conduct initial assessment of an athlete's injury or illness and formulating an impression of the injury or illness in order to provide emergency or continued care and referral to a provider for definitive diagnosis and treatment if applicable.

  • Administer first aid and emergency care for acute athletic injuries and illness.

  • Providing health care information and counseling to patients/athletes.

  • Attends seminars, training sessions, and meetings.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


Education


  • Required


    • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent

    • Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training



  • Preferred


    • Master's degree in Athletic Training





Experience:


  • Preferred


    • Two to five years of Athletic Training experience





Certification/Licensure:


  • Required


    • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification


      • Must obtain within ninety (90) days of start date



    • Licensed Athletic Trainer (LAT)

    • CU Certification


      • Must maintain and update every two (2) years
