Description: Teaching Assistant (SEMH) - Full Time


Location: Hartlepool
Start Date: January
Contract: Supply / Long-term (with potential to become permanent)

We are pleased to be working with a supportive and forward-thinking SEMH provision in Hartlepool, who are seeking a compassionate and resilient Teaching Assistant to join their team from January.

This is a full-time, long-term opportunity within a specialist setting that supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. For the right candidate, there is clear potential for the role to become permanent.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils both academically and emotionally, helping them to engage with learning and develop positive behaviours.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs

  • Supporting the creation of a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment

  • Assisting the class teacher with tailored learning activities

  • Building strong, trusting relationships to support emotional regulation

  • Applying calm and consistent de-escalation strategies

  • Supporting pupils in the classroom and around the school as required

About You

We are looking for someone who brings:

  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour

  • A calm, patient and empathetic approach

  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills

  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
