SEEKING FULL-TIME LICENSED FUNERAL DIRECTOR


We are looking for a hardworking, service-oriented funeral director and embalmer with at least 5 years of experience to join the team serving our four New Castle County, Delaware, locations (New Castle, Newark, Delaware City and Middletown). The position is full-time with an on-call requirement, and is available immediately. Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Delaware.


Full Job Description


GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB


The funeral director will be responsible for arrangements, conducting funeral services, embalming, ensuring funeral services run smoothly at all times, and other funeral-related requirements.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:


Conduct arrangement conferences and interact with families throughout the service relationship.
Ensure each funeral ceremony meets the specific requests and requirements of the person who has died, together with their family.
Direct funeral services and visitations.
Serve on-call one full week per month (Monday-Sunday).
Lead a team consisting of removers and administrative staff.
Ensure preparation and presentation of the body entrusted to our care is done in a professional, caring and dignified manner.
Be presentable and wear business attire at all times.
Ensure adherence to company procedures at all times.
Additional compensation is available for technical duties (emblamings, etc.)

"The funeral service profession requires dedication and a belief in providing service above all else. Families are unable to anticipate their needs in advance. Typically, your work is scheduled according to your scheduled hours; however, on occasion, it will be necessary to provide service for families after your normal working hours. When this occurs, management will see that you are properly informed and that you are given every possible opportunity to meet your personal and family obligations. But on some occasions unforeseen by management, you will be required to work on short notice. Your immediate and timely response will be required. It is clearly understood by all employees of the funeral homes of Spicer-Mullikin that they can be called to work at any time and can be required to work as many hours as necessary to complete the job."

QUALIFICATIONS


Current full driving license
Ability to undertake out-of-hours and weekend work
Ability to be on call, which is required


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE


At least 5 years of experience as a funeral director and embalmer highly preferred
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in Delaware (cost of Delaware licensure will be paid by employer)


LANGUAGE SKILLS


Fluent in English
Ability to speak other language(s) is a plus
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Meticulous and approach to all communications

PHYSICAL DEMANDS


The employee is often required to sit, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, and kneel
The employee must have the ability to undertake heavy lifting (average 200-300 pounds) & ability to work outside in all weather
The job can be physically demanding - for example, lifting decedents and caskets - and applicants must be able to cope with that element of the job
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus
