Description: Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant - Bury We are delighted to be recruiting for a Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated Alternative Education Provision in Bury. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity starting asap, with strong potential to become a permanent position for the right candidate. Role Overview Position: SEMH Teaching Assistant Setting: Secondary Alternative Education Provision, Bury Start Date: ASAP Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm Contract: Long-term, with the possibility of permanent employment Pay: ss95-ss110 per day (DOE) for the first 12 weeks; equal pay to permanent staff from week 13 Payroll: Paid via PAYE through Now Education (no umbrella companies) Key Responsibilities -
Provide in-class support to students with SEMH needs, Autism, and challenging behaviours -
Build positive, trusting relationships through patience, empathy, and consistency -
Identify behavioural triggers and apply proactive and de-escalation strategies -
Break down instructions and learning tasks to make content accessible -
Offer targeted support to individual pupils or small groups as needed -
Encourage resilience, engagement, and independence -
Collaborate effectively with teachers, support staff, parents, and external professionals -
Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment Working Environment -
