Description: The Youth Intern/Pastor will be the person primarily responsible for overseeing and building the Valley Student Ministry (VSM), working directly with the Junior High and High School Students (7th -12th grade). The ideal candidate is someone who is highly relational, teachable, values Theology and Disciple-Making, and meets all of the requirements of an overseer outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7. This is a Part-Time position (10-15 hours/week), and for the right candidate, this would grow into a Full-Time position upon completion of their degree. $10,000/yr. (PT) or commensurate with experience, PT to FT.
Job Duties/Responsibilities: 1. Continue to grow and mature in your own personal walk with Jesus Christ through daily Bible reading, Spiritual Disciplines, living in Biblical community and discipleship. 2. Build relationships with the youth students and with the parents/families at Valley Christian Church. 3. Organize and facilitate the youth service at 10:45 am in the youth room during second service. The students start off in Main service for worship and then head to the Youth Room after announcements. 4. Be the main teacher for VSM meetings on Sundays, and act as the main source for the Spiritual direction and vision.
5. Help serve/lead the AWANA Trek Group (6 th -8 th graders) that meet on Monday Nights. 6. Attend weekly Staff Meetings on Tuesday mornings, where we pray for the Congregation and update one another on what is happening in our various Ministries (Schedule Allowing). 7. Meet with the Lead Pastor weekly for mentorship, ministry updates and implementation of vision into the Youth Ministry. 8. Develop and administer an annual budget for the Student Ministry in conjunction with the Executive Pastor. 9. Plan monthly/bi-monthly events and outings for the Students to build community and invite other students in. 10. Provide supervision and leadership for the VSM volunteers. Recruit and train up new volunteers. 11. Plan our Yearly Summer Camp/Winter Camp and other retreats and events. 12. Over time, help to implement a Mid-Week service for our Youth and have a plan for the Youth Group to grow in number by building strategic relationships with Ministry partners and Students (such as YoungLife). 13. Other Duties as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate: Our ideal candidate is someone who is in their Junior/Senior year of college and finishing up a Christian Ministries degree or a recent graduate seeking to go into Ministry. We are seeking a Highly relational individual who has a heart for discipling students. While we value numerical growth and want to see our Youth Group grow in numbers, we also deeply want to see our Students grow as Disciples.
