Position: Financial Manager |
Description: About this specific position: The Financial Manager is responsible for recording and maintaining organized records of all financial transactions, including giving records, taxes, investments, employee deductions, purchases, expenses, invoices and other payments. They record all financial data into general ledgers which are then used to reconcile bank accounts, create future budgets, produce balance sheets, income statements, and other financial reports. This position answers to the Executive Pastor of Administration as a support, helping with employee tax records, payroll, general reporting and budgeting, etc. Responsibilities:
- Leads all accounting functions
- Record transactions: Daily transactions, such as giving, payments, purchases, and other
- Oversee all bank deposits and transfers as needed
- Reconcile accounts: Compare bookkeeping entries with actual bank accounting and credit card records for accuracy and locates missing information from staff as needed
- Generate financial reports: Balance sheets, profit and loss statements, income statements, and giving statements as needed
- Manage accounts: Both accounts receivable and payable
- Create receipts for in-kind donations and giving statements for tithes/offerings donated
- Monitor transactions for discrepancies and report them appropriately
- Add value by providing financial expertise and support to meet the growing demands of the Church at Liberty Square
- Ensure the church's financial records and trends are compliant with legal requirements
- Work with the Executive Pastor of Administration: Supply accurate and relevant data to the Lead Pastor, Elder Board, Budget Committee, as well as pastoral and general staff as requested
- Manage and execute payroll biweekly as well as providing annual tax forms to employees
- Manage and execute payments and tax forms to vendors as needed
- Work in cooperation with the entirety of the church staff to ensure a healthy and positive church body and working atmosphere
- Aid and participate in all-staff events and retreats to further foster healthy working relationships and ensure overall success of church endeavors
- Maintain a flexible attitude and be willing to assist in non-related tasks as needed
- Assist with year-end audit inquiries
- Demonstrate full understanding and ownership over assigned duties, with ability to see and operate based on greater organizational vision with minimal supervision
- Demonstrate ability to identify existing and potential issues within assigned responsibilities and offers appropriate solutions
- Prepare receipt reports for credit card expenses
- Works with ministry staff to ensure competency on financial procedures and software
Candidate Requirements:
- Growing relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior as an active member of a Bible believing and preaching church
- Must possess attention to detail, critical thinking, organizational, numerical and time management skills
- Must possess an associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field, or hold relevant work experience and accounting knowledge (CPA candidate or license preferred)
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience and expertise in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel, Apple Numbers, and / or Google Sheets
- Must possess a reference knowledge of utilizing nonprofit giving platforms, along with a willingness to master those platforms
- Must be willing to have all records audited at anytime either internally or from an external CPA or other accounting firm (Auditing background preferred)
- Operates under universal organizational competency requirements, such as integrity, servanthood, quality, innovation, and stewardship
- Courteous and respectful toward external and internal contacts, including team members, and leads by example
- Excellent planning and organizational skills to manage multiple projects
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to work independently and maintain a high degree of confidentiality
- Ability to work a Sunday - Thursday schedule
- Ability to work at a desk with a computer screen for extended periods of time, occasionally perform physical activities that require moving one's whole body, such as walking, stooping, pushing/pulling a cart, and lifting up to 10 pounds without assistance
