Position: Certified Athletic Trainer


Description:


JOB SUMMARY:

Provides evaluations and develops effective treatment plans to restore, maintain, or prevent decline of athlete function by planning and administering medically prescribed athletic training services in accordance with federal, state, and professional standards governing the hospital.


PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

Minimum of clinical hours required by the NATA-BOC for Certification.


TRAINING & EDUCATION NEEDED:

Certified as an Athletic Trainer by the NATA-BOC.

Hold current licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the State of Nebraska.

BLS certification required.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be capable of performing the duties of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Mobility (includes walking, good balance), reaching, bending, lifting, grasping, pushing, pulling, fine hand coordination, ability to read and write, ability to see and hear, ability to communicate with athletes, family members, and personnel; and ability to remain calm under stress.

Must possess problem solving skills of the type and at a level necessary to accomplish the job.

Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.

Must possess good communication skills and be able to relate professionally and positively to athletes, athlete s family members, and hospital staff.

Lifting:

Must be able to lift 50 lbs. from thigh to waist on occ. basis

Must be able to lift 25 lbs. from floor to waist on occ. basis

Push/Pull:

Must be able to push/pull 30 lbs to transport Athlete on occ. basis

Standing/Walking/Sitting:

Must be able to stand 5-8 hrs

Must be able to walk 3-5 hrs

Must be able to sit 1-3 hrs

Lower Extrems:

Must be able to squat/kneel on occ. basis

Upper Extrems:

Must be able to grip/grasp/pinch in order to carry out therapeutic activities on frequent basis

Must be able to perform extended reach over head with

Must be able to perform extended reach at waist level with

Must be able to bend while reaching with

Equipment:

Must be able to use computer and perform keyboarding on occ. basis

May be required to operate vehicle on occ. basis

Environmental Factors:

Must be able to work 10 hr.+ shift

May be required to work in noisy environment

May be required to travel to multiple facilities on freq. basis


JOB DUTIES:

Consistently provides quality care by accurately assessing athletic injury; determines appropriate treatment plan for each athlete.

Administers appropriate protocols as directed by therapist or physician.

Helps athlete accomplish treatment plan and secures necessary assistive equipment/supplies for athletes return to competition.

Demonstrate effective communication between all involved parties: athlete, parent, coach, athletic director, therapist, and physician.

Documents patient care services by recording all evaluation findings according to accepted regulatory, corporate, and professional guidelines.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks. Develops and conducts in-service training programs for hospital staff.

Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements and advising management on needed actions.

Contributes to team effort by performing other tasks, such as participating in quality improvement teams, as requested by the Department Director.

Complies with Attendance Management Policy in regards to attendance and timeliness, understanding the expectation of maintaining an absence percentage of 3% or less.

Performs other duties as assigned by persons in charge.
