ASSISTANT MIDDLE SCHOOL/ HIGH SCHOOL 6-12 PRINCIPAL




QUALIFICATIONS :

Master s Degree or higher with course background in educational administration and/or curriculum development in the field of secondary education.
Meet administrator continuing education requirements.
Possession of valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate and Administrator s certificate.
Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience at the secondary level (preferred).
Previous experience as a school administrator (preferred).
Demonstrated knowledge of current educational issues and practices including school improvement, curriculum, school climate issues, and maintaining a safe learning environment.
Experienced in the management, documentation, and reporting of student discipline and attendance with ability to establish Positive Behavior Support programs and procedures to improve student behavior and attendance.
Demonstrated leadership qualities and the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
Demonstrated knowledge of best educational practices for improving student achievement through high school reform initiatives, Professional Learning Communities, and technology in the classroom.
Commitment to high ethical standards.
Other qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board of Education.


BASIC FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the principal, assists in all matters pertaining to the administration of the school.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Serves as the authority in charge during the absence of the principal.
2. Assumes responsibilities for student discipline and attendance; holds conferences with counselors, parents, students, staff, and principal regarding disciplinary referrals, attendance, and other issues; and inter-school transfers.
3. Assists the principal with providing direction and leadership in working with the school improvement team, process, implementation, and evaluation focused on classroom management, student behavior, discipline, attendance, and truancy.
4. Oversees the system for student attendance. Including PBIS for attendance, consequences for chronic absenteeism and truancy, and quarterly monitoring and reporting.
5. PBIS/MTSS - work with all support staff to determine steps to support students in need.
6. Assists the principal with coordination and proper supervision of all school sponsored events and co-curricular activities.
7. Supervise and monitor student behavior to maintain an academic environment conducive to student achievement including, but not limited to, supervision during lunch, in the hallways and during co-curricular activities at night and after school.
8. Assists the principal in maintaining proper and accurate documentation for pupil
accounting, the office of civil rights, and state reporting in the areas of attendance
and discipline.
9. Serves as the building s contact person with the student resource officer in all matters including school safety, student behavior, and reports.
10. Provides educational leadership in the development and implementation of curriculum, instruction, data, and assessment. With a strong focus on the improvement of classroom management for instruction.
11. Assumes responsibility for revising and implementing the Student Handbook.
12. Assists the principal in the areas of classroom fidelity checks, walkthroughs/observations, and the evaluation of staff.
13. Assists the principal with assuring compliance with all state/federal laws and regulations regarding students, staff, and the educational programs of the building.
14. Shares responsibility to enforce and implement all district administrative guidelines and board policies.
15. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with all building stakeholders.
16. Attends board meetings
