The Source and Recruit Company has been exclusively retained to assist our client - a respected commercial construction firm - in identifying a motivated Assistant Estimator to join their growing team. This is a confidential search; all inquiries will be handled with the utmost discretion.

Our client is a well-established, family-operated commercial contractor with a strong presence throughout the Northeast. Known for delivering quality construction services, their portfolio includes restaurant, retail, residential, commercial, and institutional projects typically ranging from $1 million to $5 million. The firm has earned a reputation for its commitment to craftsmanship, safety, collaboration, and long-standing client partnerships.


Role Overview

The Assistant Estimator will play a key supporting role in the preconstruction process. This position is ideal for someone with foundational experience in construction who is eager to deepen their estimating expertise in a team-based environment. The role involves contributing to competitive bids, analyzing subcontractor proposals, and supporting pricing strategy development - all while utilizing industry-standard software tools including Procore, Bluebeam, and BidConnect.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely bids for commercial construction projects

  • Analyze project drawings and specifications to develop scope and quantity takeoffs

  • Support solicitation and evaluation of subcontractor and supplier bids

  • Review subcontractor proposals for completeness and competitive pricing

  • Participate in value engineering and cost-efficiency reviews

  • Maintain detailed and organized bid documentation and systems

  • Collaborate regularly with project managers, superintendents, and senior estimators


Qualifications
  • Approximately 3 years of experience in commercial construction, ideally with exposure to estimating or preconstruction

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline preferred

  • Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings and specifications

  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills

  • Desire to grow professionally in a collaborative, fast-paced environment

  • Familiarity with estimating tools or Excel-based takeoffs; experience with Procore, Bluebeam, or BidConnect is a plus
