Position: Research Scientist


Description:

(Cytec Engineered Materials Inc. / Havre De Grace, MD) - Lead the development of new adhesive technologies for the aerospace industry with a focus on short and longer term breakthrough technologies; lead and conduct research in the area of thermosetting polymers and related chemistries to develop leading edge technologies/products for adhesive bonding, surfacing, and lightning strike protection. Requires Ph.D. in Chemistry, Polymer Science, or Materials Science, or closely related field and three years of experience in job offered or as Production Engineer Laboratories, or Production Engineer Adhesives Facility, or in similar position(s) in a materials laboratory or manufacturing environment. Background in education, training, or experience must include experience with thermosetting polymer chemistry in the area of adhesives or composites; working knowledge of organic chemistry and structural property relationships; knowledge of surface science and analytical techniques to characterize surfaces; familiarity with laboratory practices associated with thermosetting resins including mixing, coating and fabrication of test specimens, and testing; knowledge of various material characterization techniques including Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermomechanical Analysis (TMA), Scanning Election Microscopy (SEM), Rheology, Fourier Transform InfraRed Spectroscopy (FTIR), Fracture Analysis, Tensile and Peel testing; experience with manufacturing of adhesives and other thermosetting resin systems; experience in product transition from R&D into production, lean manufacturing, and lean product development; knowledge of or experience with Six Sigma methodology. Occasional travel is required to attend/present at conferences, support industrialization scale-up projects for new formulation developments, and to attend advanced training courses; travel is approximately 80% domestic and 20% international. Salary $127,358 to $142,440 per year; bonus potential (up to 10% of eligible earnings).
