Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: Supervise, maintain discipline, and control inmates in their living quarters, at meals, in classrooms, at work sites, activity and program areas, in the hospital, kitchen, and bathing areas. Supervise inmates while segregated for punitive, protective, and administrative purposes and while they are on work details (inside and outside). Qualifications: Education: High School Diploma or GED Licensing & Certification: Driver's License Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school or equivalent Must possess a valid, current driver's license Must be 18 years of age Free of misdemeanor conviction involving domestic battery as an adult, unless the conviction was for a battery committed prior to July 1, 1997, and has been expunged Free of felony convictions Must pass a drug screening test approved by the Division of Personnel Services Preferred Qualifications: Certification as Corrections Officer by the Secretary of Corrections (issued upon completion of the Corrections Officer Basic Training and must be renewed annually) CPR as provided in annual in-service training Weapons qualification annually Ability to deal effectively with individuals Knowledge and practices of supervising offenders confined to an adult multi-security correctional institution Ability to use physical force as warranted to subdue violent offenders Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Pass background check Receive positive work references Submit all required application documents Receive a Kansas Tax Clearance certificate within 10 days of a conditional job offer Pass a drug screen and physical Equal Employment Opportunity The State of Kansas is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
