Summary
Under the supervision of the Director-Facilities Services, the General Maintenance Worker sees to the general maintenance of buildings and equipment based on set schedules or in response to emergencies.
The incumbent performs maintenance, construction and renovation work according to assigned tasks while respecting health and safety standards and regulations. They ensure the safety of the University premises, facilities and property at all times.
Key Responsibilities
CONSTRUCTION, RENOVATIONS AND MAINTENANCE OF BUILDINGS
- Build, demolish, repair and renovate walls, ceilings and floors;
- Paint indoors and outdoors;
- Check, repair and install individual air conditioners;
- Repair washing machines, dryers, refrigerators and other electro-mechanical appliances, as far as he or she is able;
- Do minor plumbing repairs (maintenance of taps and pipes for drinking water and waste water), welding, electricity (testing and replacement of electrical outlets, electrical wiring, transformers, lights and related components);
- Check and repair equipment and appliances related to the ventilation and heating systems, in collaboration with the stationary engineer;
- Replace light bulbs and fluorescent tubes, as needed;
- Move equipment and furniture according to the needs of the Faculties and services;
- Change and modify cylinders and keys based on needs communicated by the person responsible for key services;
- Purchase materials (do errands) authorized by the supervisor as needed.
- Perform other tasks related to these duties.
OUTDOOR MAINTENANCE
- In winter, clear the snow from sidewalks, parking lots and steps, and spread salt and sand on them.
- Turn on / turn off outdoor taps and water supplies when the seasons change.
- Check and ensure the upkeep of roofs and skylights. Repair as needed.
- Maintain outdoor furniture as needed and put it away at the end of the summer.
- Check and ensure the upkeep of outdoor electrical outlets as needed.
- Perform other tasks related to these duties.
Education, Experience, Knowledge and Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Demonstrated experience in one or more disciplines in the area of construction/renovation;
- Have experience in handling and using various tools needed to carry out tasks: stationary machinery, tractor, lawnmower, hand, mechanical and electrical tools;
- General drivers licence (Class G);
- Understanding of metric and imperial measurements;
- Knowledge of health and safety standards and regulations;
- Bilingualism in both official languages;
- Good physical capabilities;
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively;
- Ability to work as part of a team;
- Initiative, autonomy;
- Time management skills and ability to set priorities;
- Customer service skills;
- Availability to work overtime depending on the needs of Facilities Services.

Le titulaire effectue des travaux dentretien, de construction et de r©novation selon les t¢ches assign©es tout en respectant les normes et r¨glements de sant© et s©curit©. Il sassure de la s©curit© des locaux, des installations et de la propri©t© de lUniversit© en tout temps.
Principales fonctions :
CONSTRUCTION, R‰NOVATIONS ET ENTRETIEN DES IMMEUBLES
- Construire, d©molir, r©parer et r©nover les murs, les plafonds et les planchers;
- Effectuer des travaux de peinture int©rieurs et ext©rieurs;
- V©rifier, r©parer et installer les climatiseurs individuels;
- R©parer les laveuses, s©cheuses, r©frig©rateurs et autres ©quipements ©lectrom©caniques de maison, dans les limites de ses capacit©s;
- Effectuer des travaux mineurs de plomberie (entretien de robinetterie et de canalisations deau potable et deaux us©es), de soudure, d©lectricit© (v©rification et remplacement de prises de courant, de fils ©lectriques, de transformateurs, de lumi¨res et de composantes connexes);
- V©rifier et r©parer l©quipement et les appareils reli©s aux syst¨mes da©ration et de chauffage, en collaboration avec le m©canicien de machines fixes;
- Remplacer les ampoules et fluorescents, au besoin;
- D©m©nager l©quipement et le mobilier selon les besoins des Facult©s et services;
- Changer et modifier les barillets et les cl©s selon les besoins transmis par le responsable du service des cl©s;
- Effectuer les achats (courses) autoris©s par le superviseur en provision et en mat©riaux selon les besoins.

ENTRETIEN EXT‰RIEUR
- D©blayer en p©riode hivernale les trottoirs, stationnements et les marches et y r©pandre le sel et le sable.
- Ouvrir et fermer les robinets ext©rieurs et les puits deau aux changements de saison.
- V©rifier et assurer lentretien des toits et des puits de lumi¨re. Faire les r©parations au besoin.
- Entretenir le mobilier ext©rieur selon les besoins et le ranger la fin de la saison estivale.
- V©rifier et assurer lentretien des prises ©lectriques ext©rieures au besoin.
- Ex©cuter toutes autres t¢ches reli©es ces fonctions.
Formation, connaissances, exp©rience et qualit©s essentielles
- Dipl´me d©tudes secondaires ou l©quivalent ;
- Exp©rience d©montr©e dans une ou plusieurs disciplines du domaine de la construction/r©novation ;
