Description: Non-Profit Senior Director of Development and Operations
Houston, TX
Our client, a Houston non-profit organization, is seeking a Senior Director of Development and Operations who will oversee the operations, programs, and updates to the strategic plans of the organization in support of its mission and goals. This Senior Director is responsible for operating the business of the organization, managing the organization's facility, and for leading the fundraising programs with emphasis on donations, grants, and fundraising events. This role reports directly to a designated representative of the Board of Directors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for leading the organization in a manner that supports and guides the organization's mission.
- Develops annual fundraising goals and works with Executive Vice President (EVP) to create an annual plan to reach those goals. The EVP and the Senior Director will present the annual fundraising goals to the Board of Directors.
- Writes and submits all grant requests, also performs all required grant reporting. Additionally, actively seeks out new foundations to expand grant opportunities.
- Oversees the execution of special events. Creates the event budget, works closely with event chairs, vendors, speaker(s) and appropriate staff.
- Creates and manages calendar of deadlines for all proposals, direct mail appeals, events and other development activities.
- Works to identify and develop individual, corporate, and foundation prospects to support development efforts. Maintains record of actions and contacts with prospective donors.
- Manages the organization to ensure maximum resource utilization and continued growth of the organization's revenue.
- Creates and works within the approved annual budget approved by the Board.
- Assists and manages the bookkeeper and auditors to produce reports in a timely manner, including the annual audit, 990, and 1099's.
- Oversee operations of the organization's facility and staff. Implements strategies to increase volunteer involvement.
- Sets clear team goals and manages day-to-day operations.
- Reviews contracts.
- Provides oversight for communications and public relations, including social media.
- Serves as a spokesperson for the organization
Position requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
required from an accredited university
- 5+ years of non-profit experience with at least two years of grant writing and fundraising
- Experience managing a staff
- Strong relationship building skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
