Position: Solar Design Engineer - utility scale solar PV + storage

Description: Solar Design Engineer - large scale solar PV, UK market. Salary negotiable 35,000 - 55,000, + bonus. South-East /England area (home based)

This is an exciting opportunity for a bright graduate with some decent practical solar systems design experience to join the fast-growing UK office of a significant European Energy developer/investor/operator.

In the UK the firm is very well invested and developing large-scale ground mount solar projects on greenfield sites and also acting as an EPC (system integrator) for 3rd party commercial rooftop solar projects.

The role

This is a technical role with a strong commercial flavour.

You will design and cost out solar PV and battery projects for commercial projects from roof top systems of hundreds of KWp to utility scale ground mount up to 50MWp.

You will be responsible for supporting the sales team responding to RFQ from clients, understanding the requirements and then preparing layouts and cost plans to quickly and effectively provide quotes and technical support.

You will liaise with the UK sales and central engineering team.

You will be responsible for preparing tender responses, liaising with suppliers to obtain up-to-date pricing.

You will be required to communicate with the client so good communication skills are essential.

About You

You're likely an engineering graduate with a minimum of a few years' experience designing solar systems and now looking for the second or third step in your career, or a more seasoned operator.

You may have focussed largely on system design, but it will be great if you've project engineering and pricing experience too.

You'll have a confident, enthusiastic approach and a desire to develop your skills.

Essential skills & experience:

  • 3 years' minimum practical experience with PV system design using PVsyst and AUTOCAD

  • Good knowledge of UK solar sector and regulations

  • Engineering / technical degree level education

  • Good MS Office skills, with very strong Excel

  • Self-starter with high attention to detail

  • Good communication skills - verbal & written

  • Comfortable with some UK travel and visits to the office

It's likely the company will establish an office somewhere between Brighton and Central London - so proximity to these areas will be preferred.

Good basic salary (probably 35,000 - 55,000) based on experience and value add - the client is flexible on salary and will consider more experienced engineers, and also more junior applicants if they show lots of potential - hence the broad salary range.
