Our Customer is a leading name within the global Telecommunication & Fibre-optic Communication sector.

A temporary vacancy has arisen within their small EMEA regulatory team based in central London to cover a maternity leave.

The scope includes the active oversight of regulatory compliance activities in 30+ countries in which they operate throughout the EMEA region. The role includes both (i) outward-facing activity involving liaising with national regulatory authorities and ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory obligations, and (ii) inward-facing activity, including advising colleagues in product development, sale initiatives, expansion markets, access management, and other activities as appropriate.

Key Tasks

Maintenance of all regulatory licences and registrations supporting the whole network, data centres and collocation sites and all communications services provided throughout the region to ensure that the company complies with all relevant regulatory obligations. Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual regulatory reports (totalling around 150+ p/a) to be filed with the authorities by working with Finance, Product, Network Security and other departments as required in the preparation of relevant submissions. Assessment and follow up until payment of regulatory fees imposed by national telecommunication authorities.

Where appropriate, prepare applications and obtain new licenses/authorizations in accordance with the company's product and geographic expansion strategy. Provide regulatory advice to support expansion plans in new markets, by conducting independent desktop research on regulatory and political environment, licence application requirements, regulatory contributions and costs, foreign investment aspects, data protection, legal interception, local content requirements, etc, and advise expansion team on main risks and opportunities.

Provide support to product development and new and developing regulation applicable to relevant products. Give timely guidance to the sales teams including advice on regulatory aspects of complex/major bids and, where required, assist with negotiation of commercial contracts.

Analyse security breaches within the organisation, and work with the relevant team in order to determine whether personal data was involved in the incident. Generate reports to be submitted to data protection authorities within specified timescales and provide advice on client communication.

Identify and pursue opportunities to leverage the regulatory environment in support of the company's strategic procurement of regulated services from competitors. This will include assistance in the preparation of responses to regulatory market reviews and negotiation of commercial contracts for the procurement of (primarily wholesale) services that are themselves subject to regulation. In addition, identify cost reduction opportunities by advising on contractual and legal interpretation, and providing support during dispute resolution negotiations.

Assist on integration activities, such as entity consolidations, restructurings, de-notification of inactive entities, etc.

Key Skills, Experience and Attributes

They are ideally seeking a qualified lawyer, although a candidate with strong commercial background and relevant experience would also be considered. The successful candidate will probably have had previous experience of working in a regulatory field in the telecommunications sector.

It is essential that the successful candidate displays outstanding written and verbal communication skills, is able to develop strong working relationships with internal and external contacts at all levels of seniority and will thrive on working within a team. In this regard, the individual must demonstrate support for the Company's core values of maintaining a positive open demeanour, encouraging different points of view, moving forward through change; providing timely information; communicating context for business decisions; recognizing accomplishments of others and fostering teamwork and collaboration.

Preferably a confident individual with a mature outlook, the ability to handle complex challenges and high degree of energy, enthusiasm and a "can do attitude." Numeracy, an aptitude for clear reasoning and an understanding of general economic principles would be a significant advantage.
