Head of Development - London

The Head of Development will play key part of the Mirriad leadership team and will work alongside the CTO, day-to-day, implementing and devising technical development and infrastructure strategy.

This is an opportunity to lead an Engineering Function, fully aligned with our commercial goals, comprising of multiple empowered, cross-functional development teams, along with DevOps and Data Engineering SMEs.

You will be a trusted partner/advisor to the business and the Product team, interrogating the roadmap and other decision making, to ensure that Engineering considerations are fully represented. Your teams are also the ultimate escalation resource for the Support Team, identifying platform issues and providing fixes.

Requirements

Technical Experience/Knowledge/Skills

General

• Solid grounding in software engineering principles with supervisory experience
• Knowledge and experience across architecture, language and frameworks

Development

• Background in modern programming languages. Ideally or more of Java/Kotlin/C++ (Python/JavaScript/Typescript)
• Web application frameworks (Spring, Flask, Django or similar)
• Test Driven Development, Behaviour Driven Development
• CI/CD (Bamboo/Jenkins/GitLab/GitHub/CircleCI etc.)

Application Architecture

• Sync/async services e.g. web services vs queues
• Restful APIs (design, implementation and integration)
• Data and process modelling
• Web application design patterns

Application Deployment/Management

• Docker, docker compose/Kubernetes/rancher etc.

Cloud Infrastructure

• Infrastructure as Code
• Networking concepts
• Deployment options (serverless, clusters as a service, scaling groups, bare metal etc.)
• Storage options (S3-like, SQL DB, NoSQL etc.)

SDLC

• Agile methodologies (SCRUM, Kanban)
